Are New Years resolutions a complete waste of time?

(A blog where I'm going to take up approximately 3 minutes of your time to tell you my opinion on New Years resolutions and why I think we shouldn't label them, whether you wanted to know or not). "It's short and sweet I promise!"

It's the time of year where we all try so desperately hard to find ourselves a resolution for the year, but is it really worth it?

To me a New Years resolution is a goal, something you set yourself to achieve and continue through the year. However, I'm a big believer in setting yourself many goals and achieving them when the time is right and at your own pace. Why would you want to label something as a New Years resolution? Why limit yourself? Is it limiting yourself?

Labelling it makes it something you're going to tell everyone when they ask about resolutions (the good old conversation filler after new year) and then a few months down the line you'll start to feel the pressure to continue it.

I personally am not making a New Years resolution this year. Not because I'm perfect and have nothing to work on, but because I have many goals set personally to myself; goals that will take longer than a year to achieve, ones that aren't things to think about everyday, but happen over time: and those that I don't need to shout about to everyone. One statement as a resolution isn't going to define you for a year, don't let it.

If you're making a New Years resolution this year then make it one that you know you're going to work on regardless of anyone or any circumstance, one that you're doing for yourself and one that won't add too much pressure to yourself. Make it achievable.

I hope everyone enjoys their year and achieves as many goals and personal targets as possible (no matter how little they may be, everything matters). Do things for you and not other people, remember; most people forget all about your New Years resolutions in a few months. So if you're making one or have already made one then make it for yourself and not others.

Whether you agree or disagree with me about setting a New Years resolution you should always have a goal or a target to achieve. I would love to hear all of your New Years resolutions (I'm going to call them 'goals for the year' ) so keep an eye on my instagram stories for a chance to share them!
