Okay, so Valentine's Day is approaching and for those who are single it can be a bit of an 'annoying day'.
I speak as someone in a relationship, but I'm going to be open minded here. Trust me, I've been single for many many Valentine's Days before!
For many of you out there it probably wouldn't phase you at all that you're single on Valentine's Day. You'll just let the day go by like any other. To be honest, I think thats what we should all do.
Others will feel like it's a day that highlights how lonely they are. This year, let's flip that opinion, you may not have a 'BAE' or a significant other, but no one is ever alone!

I personally have always thought Valentine's Day is a bit over-rated. Like, don't get me wrong if Aaran didn't get me a card I'd be a little bit pissed, but the other OTT stuff isn't my thing.
Me and Aaran (my boyfriend for those that are wondering who this Aaran guy is I'm going on about) have decided that for Valentine's Day we are just going to stay in and cook a meal together. Restaurants become expensive over Valentine's day and everywhere gets fully booked, so we thought it would be nice to do it our way, in our own time for less of the price. I'm in charge of cooking the starter (we flipped a coin to decide), Aaran the main and then we're both going to make the dessert together. Valentine's Day gives us a good excuse for a cute date night in (Or an ideal lazy Sunday watching movies, making dessert to then have dinner in the evening..) oooo #couplegoals
If we do gifts (I seriously just want a card- Aaran if you're reading this- don't disappoint haha) then we will probably just set it as something little, e.g. maximum spend of £5. So there's a cute idea for any of you coupled up people out there. I'm all for celebrating Valentine's Day, but it is essentially a well commercialised day that is used to rake in a load of money and I'm not falling for it.
Now, if you're not coupled up it doesn't mean you can't celebrate or appreciate Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is simply a day of acknowledging love and sharing it with those around us. Take this day to appreciate those around you; friends, family, those you work with etc.
Many card shops and card producers ( I don't even know if that's the right word) are already on this hype for Valentine's Day cards. "Be my Gal-entine" are currently trending; along with the normal standard "Happy Valentine's Day" card. I still remember to this day when one of my friends from school brought me a card and a cake from the bakery she worked in. She was coming over to my house for a girly night in and rocked up with it; honestly it's little thoughts like those that go a long way. (So much so I still remember it now).
So if you're feeling like showing your bestie some appreciation over Valentine's Day then there's an idea for you (whether she's coupled up with someone else or not). I'm sure if you scrapped the card and just took them cake they wouldn't complain! (Aaran if you buy me cake I won't complain either *wink wink*).
Did you know that Galentine's day is an actual thing, it just takes place on the 13th February instead! <3
Another thing I'm loving is the generalisation on cards for all circumstances. There's of course your bog standard "Happy Valentine's Day" cards and your Gal-entines day cards like I've mentioned, but some sites have even gone onto do generic humour cards and cards for same gender relationships. I say same gender as I don't believe I should have to label it. I think it's such a huge statement and I'm so pleased that same gender relationships are being normalised these days. Everyone should feel equal, especially for days like Valentine's Day, and certainly not made to feel different to anyone else. It's such a nice thing to see card retailers offering.
So, lastly moving onto the key part of Valentine's Day...
THE LURRVEEEEEE
Valentine's Day is on Thursday 14th February this year (obviously its always that date, just highlighting the day for you all). Most of you reading this and me included will be at work on that Thursday. Please try and make someones day (I'm not saying you have to buy everyone cake), do a kind gesture or try and go out of your way to make someone happy or just let them know you really appreciate them.
I message my best friend every Monday with a good typical "Happy Monday" message and occasionally do the same on other days. I think its just the little simple things that let people know you're thinking of them that mean so much.

*Message you're friends on February 14th (GIRLS- February 13th) and tell them you love them and appreciate all they do and the moments they share with you.*
*Message/ tell your parents you love them on February 14th.*
*As much as you may not want to, or may not get a response, tell your siblings you love them on February 14th (maybe a "what do you want?" message is what I'll get from my brother). *
*Tell who ever you come across on February 14th to "have a good day" or "have a nice evening" or " I hope you have a nice weekend". (Maybe even a cheeky little compliment)*
Whatever you do this Valentine's Day, share good vibes.
We all need it once in a while.
