April Adventures 2021

HEY HEY!

It's the end of April already?!

Spring is in full swing, some restrictions have been lifted giving us a new element of freedom, it snowed and I returned to work. That is April in a nutshell.

I haven't yet ventured out to a pub/restaurant...maybe I will soon. I love getting dressed up to go out, but the idea of hiding a great outfit under a big coat and sitting out in the cold is not my idea of fun.

I'm back writing about all of my adventures and sharing any details I think you may want to know. There's a few places I think you'll love if you haven't been to them before!

LETS GO...

Bookham Commons

Bookham Commons is a National Trust site, free to visit and park, featuring various different paths around the grassland, ponds and woods. It's a great place to visit in the sunshine for a change of scenery and a picnic. If you're a lover of wildlife spotting then this is the place for you.

Horton Country Park

A nature reserve that runs along the edge and surroundings of Hobbledown Adventure park and farm. On certain paths you can see some of the animals, like horses, camels, alpacas, sheep and nilgai in the farm. This is a great place to walk or even go for a run that gives you more to look at than just trees!

Denbies Wine Estate

I've written about this place previously, so I won't write too much. However, I did walk a little further round the vineyard this time and the views are lovely!

Parking is free, there's a little cafe for a drink/food and then you're able to freely wander around the grounds. A great spot in Surrey.

Box Hill- chasing sunsets

Box Hill, another place I've been to and written about previously. This time my boyfriend and I headed here to watch the sunset. I am a sucker for a great sunset and after watching it from the window at work the whole week in mid April, I made sure we went chasing one on the weekend.

Arundel

I visited Arundel last August and decided it was time to venture here with my boyfriend. Arundel is such a lovely little town, with its own castle and lakes. I highly recommend taking a day out here. We were going to combine our outing to Arundel with Amberley Museum as it's close by, however it is closed still due to Covid restrictions. Stay tuned for another blog to catch up with that one!

Info- Arundel Castle is pre book only at the moment due to Covid restrictions. There is plenty of parking in Arundel, in car parks and on road. If you're a love cakes and brownies then be sure to find 'LG Cafe Arundel'.

Rustington

Rustington is a great beach along the south coast, further west from Brighton. Sand and sand banks become visible the further out the tide is. My boyfriend and I headed here briefly after Arundel before turning back home. It's not very often we go to the beach.

Horton Park Golf Club- Crazy Golf

Mum had a day off and what better thing to do than play a cheeky game of crazy golf before going to work?

We played 3 games and I won one; great practice though ready for a game with the boyfriend soon!

Devils Punch Bowl

The Devils Punch Bowl is a National Trust site and the views are incredible. It has paths all around the Punch Bowl and into Hindhead Commons. The Hindhead tunnel (built in 2007- opened in 2011) on the A3 runs under the edge of the Punch Bowl and Commons. You can now walk along the area that used to be part of the A3 before the tunnel was built (first picture). It's crazy how the surroundings and road has changed so much. I used to follow the old A3 route when heading to my nans.

One of the National Trust routes takes you onto a bridge crossing over the A3. After a piggy back from my boyfriend (as I couldn't see over the wall), you can see the end of the Hindhead tunnel (see picture). The bridge has been built between the woods on either side of the A3 to create a safe way for animals to cross the road just as much as us.

Info: The Devils Punch Bowl is just off the A3. If you're heading south on the A3, you go through the Hindhead tunnel and exit at the junction straight after. There is a fee for parking, unless your a National Trust member, but entry to the Punch Bowl and site is free.

Waverley Abbey

The ruins of Waverley Abbey are situated in Farnham and are a short distance from the Devils Punch Bowl. My boyfriend and I combined the two places together in our day out. Waverley Abbey is a short walk from the car park along the River Wey in front of Waverley House. Waverley House looks like the kind of house you'd see in Downton Abbey or Pride and Prejudice; huge and beautiful.

The Abbey ruins date back to 1128 and still look great to this day. Waverley Abbey was the 'first monastery founded in Britain by the reforming Cistercian religious order'- quoted from the English Heritage site. To find out more information and location details see the website link below.

April has been a great month of new freedom. Allowing us to travel a bit further has broadened the areas we can venture to. I would highly recommend the Devils Punch Bowl, Waverley Abbey and Arudel as days out. Maybe you could even combine those with chasing a sunset?

I hope you are all well and I wish you a great month in May; there's 2 BANK HOLIDAYS!! Whoop Whoop!!

Pssttt... it's also my birthday in May!

Much love,

Zo
